History on Banknotes: Gregorio Luperon

A Dominican hero, Gregorio Luperon is best known for his fight to restore what is now the Dominican Republic after it was annexed by the Spanish Government. Haiti and the Dominican Republic are connected to each as they on the same island mass in the Caribbean Ocean. As history would tell it Haiti belonged to the French and the Dominican Republic belonged to Spain. Haiti found its independence from the French crown and it caused many in the Dominican Republic to feel as if they too wanted independence.
The Dominican Republic entered a pact with the Spanish Government that offered it protection from the Haitians who may want to unit the entire island into one nation. This is were Gregorio Luperon became a hero for the Dominican Republic. Luperon led the Domincian Military in a fight against the Spaniards to regain the Dominicans independence again.

With the best of seven NBA Eastern Conference Finals tied, 3-3, the Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James met the Boston Celtics in a deciding Game 7 on Sunday, May 27, 2018 (5/27/18) at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

For the last few years, there’s been a defined order at the quarterback position in Pittsburgh.

That situation had a wrench thrown into it in April when the Steelers selected Mason Rudolph in the third round of the draft. First, it was Roethlisberger going public with his displeasure with the pick before saying his comments were taken out of context. Now, there’s the inherent questioning of Jones’ status as the backup.

Reuben Foster’s accuser testifies that he didn’t strike her

Elissa Ennis, the ex-girlfriend of 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster, currently is testifying at Foster’s preliminary hearing on charges that, among other things, Foster struck her. Ennis has testified under oath that she lied to police when she said that Foster hit her.

“It was all a money scheme,” Ennis said. “I didn’t want to get this far in the news. It was about money.”

It was so much about money that, after Foster was arrested in February, Ennis said she returned to Louisiana with money and jewelry belonging to Foster.

These various admissions all came from Ennis while being questioned by the prosecution. When Foster’s lawyer questioned Ennis, the effort has consisted, so far, of an effort to summarize the main points.

Mutombo’s honor was announced Tuesday by the NBA and Turner.

The four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year created the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation to improve conditions for people in his native Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital has treated nearly a quarter of a million people since opening in 2007.

He will receive a colorful suit jacket, the kind Sager fashioned during his years on air before dying of leukemia. The award will be presented on June 25 in Santa Monica, California.

Paul Worrilow carted off at Eagles practice

Practices during the OTA phase of offseason workouts aren’t full contact, but injuries can still happen and the Eagles got a reminder of that on Tuesday.

According to multiple reports from Philadelphia, linebacker Paul Worrilow has been carted off the field after suffering an apparent knee injury. Worrilow went down after colliding with another defender during a 7-on-7 drill and members of the medical staff put an air cast on his knee before he was taken for further evaluation.

He’s allowed nine earned runs over 10 2/3 innings in his last two starts, both of which came against the Mariners.

The Chicago Bears have endured a fair amount of roster turnover over the last few years as they undergo their latest rebuild. Hroniss Grasu could soon find himself part of that turnover.

The 2015 third-round pick has good size for a center at 6’3 and 301 pounds, and he’s only 26 years old. However, injuries and poor play have prevented Grasu from establishing himself as a full-time starter in Chicago. In three seasons with the Bears, he has appeared in just 14 games with 12 starts.

Cody Whitehair earned the starting center job over the last two years, though he spent some time at guard due to Grasu’s lack of versatility. Injuries forced Grasu into the starting lineup last season, but since he is a center only, Whitehair had to slide over a spot.

Releasing Washington would only save the Bills roughly $470,000 in cap space, but it would spare McDermott the trouble of dealing with a defensive piece he didn’t choose. Dareus, Davis and Ronald Darby are a few similar pieces who Buffalo has already shown the door.

After entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2013, Russell Shepard finally broke out with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2016, catching 23 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns. During the ensuing offseason, the Carolina Panthers inked him to a three-year, $10 million deal.

Joe Flacco has gotten the message

The decision of the Ravens to trade back into round one and select quarterback Lamar Jackson sent a clear signal to plenty of people. One of the intended recipients was Joe Flacco. And I think. He gets. The point.

Via Peter King of SI.com, Flacco has gotten the message. He knows that the team is reacting to a boring Salisbury Steak and steamed spuds offense that excite[s] no one.

Then there鈥檚 this: Flacco financially had Baltimore by the marbles five years ago, and Flacco squeezed. Hard. Then, when his contract needed to be restructured, he squeezed again. Harder. If he鈥檚 performing at a high level, there鈥檚 no danger of the Ravens squeezing back. Now that Flacco has shown some slippage, the Ravens may soon get a chance to settle scores with Flacco, and they likely won鈥檛 hesitate to do it, especially if the rookie plays in Baltimore like he played in Louisville.

What time would a London Super Bowl start?

One of the big topics in the first slow week of the offseason came from the stated aspirations of Jaguars owner Shad Khan to bring a Super Bowl to London, if/when he buys Wembley Stadium. (And it could be more if than when.)
